How long will my gel enhancement last?

Standard gel enhancements usually last around two-four weeks for most people. The natural nail plate, lifestyle, and at-home care (i.e. cuticle oils will elongate lifetime) will affect the lifespan of your manicure.

What brands do you use?

I carefully select brands that I’ve experienced that deliver the best performance, longevity, and durability. Most products I use are Japanese, Korean or North American made and European. I constantly strive to provide the best products for my clients.

Brands I use include: Presto, Kokoist, Luxio, Aprés, Hello, The F Gel, Akzentz and Fiote

My nails are damaged, now what?

The lure and satisfaction of picking off chipped gel polish or overgrown enhancements has overcome most of us at some point in time. You may notice that your nails are flimsy, sensitive and quick to break. If this sounds like your nails, I recommend finding a manicurist you connect with and keeping regular appointments. Keep your nails short and tidy, resist the urge to buff them, use cuticle oil at least twice daily- it can take months to get your nails back in shape.

What should I do at home?

  • Be gentle with your nails, they feel hard because they are coated in gel but excessive tapping and bottle opening, etc… can cause your manicure to break down.

  • I recommend using cuticle oil at least 2 times a day. An easy way to remember this is by adding it to your AM and PM skincare routine.

  • Wear gloves when you clean- excessive soaking and abrasive cleaners can discolor your nails and cause your gel to break down.

  • Do not pick it off! I know it is tempting but be gentle with your nails. The reason they feel hard is due to the gel they are coated in but excessive tapping and bottle opening, etc… can cause your manicure to break down.

  • Use cuticle oil at least twice a day- I recommend incorporating it into your morning and evening skincare routine.

How often should I come in for an appointment?

2-3 weeks is a good time frame to come in for manicure appointments. Consistency is key. Let me know major events coming up, how your lifestyle is, and anything you may be concerned with. As your manicurist, I want the best for you and your beautiful cuticles.

What is a Structured Gel Manicure?

A Structured Gel Manicure (also called a Gel Overlay) is an elevated manicure technique where the product is placed on the nail to provide maximum shock-absorption, strength and growth support. I recommend it for all of my clients- especially those with weakened nails, physically demanding jobs (bartenders, hairdressers, waitresses, estheticians, retail employees, moms…) or those who would like to grow out their natural nails. For Structured Gel Manicure services I use Luminary multiflex Gel- it’s Vegan, Made in the USA and 5-Free.

I also use kokoist Japanese made and vegan , and AkZent a Canadian brand which is vegan and 5 free.

Do you have vegan-friendly options?

YES! I supply both Vegan Friendly and Cruelty Free options. Please let me know prior to your appointment that you would like Vegan-Friendly Brands: Akzentz, and Luxio, Kokoist are both vegan-friendly along with other Korean brands.

Should I take a break from gel to let my nails breathe?

It would seem logical to think that your nails need a break, however, it’s not right. The nails get all of their oxygen from your blood supply. Your nail plate (the part that gets painted) is dead keratin. If you would like a break from gel, I highly recommend getting it removed properly and keeping them short.

What is your disinfection process?

As a certified nail tech, I standby strict cleaning process. After every single client, reusable implements (i.e. nail clippers, metal cuticle pushers, cuticle nippers) are meticulously washed with soap and water. These implements are then soaked in an EPA registered, virucidal, bactericidal, fungicidal, and tuberculocidal hospital grade disinfectant (I use Lucas-Cide EPA Registration #10324-141-3974). All disposable materials (paper towels, nail files, buffers, orangewood sticks) are thrown out. Every surface (nail table, inside of nail lamps, etc…) is disinfected between each client.
